Private Car from Singapore to Ipoh

Ipoh, the capital of Perak, is a food city wrapped in limestone hills. Its old town is full of colonial shophouses, painted murals and coffee shops that have been roasting the same white coffee for generations, while the cliffs on the edge of town hide Buddhist temples built right into caves. It is relaxed, affordable and easy to explore over a long weekend.

With Luxway SGMY you travel in one private car from your door in Singapore to your hotel in Ipoh, staying in your seat through both checkpoints. The per-car fare already covers tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking, and you pay the driver only when you arrive — no deposit.

Things to Do in Ipoh

Ipoh’s sights fall into two groups: the walkable heritage core around the old town, and the cave temples and attractions on the outskirts that really need a car to reach.

Old Town Murals

Large wall paintings by Lithuanian-born artist Ernest Zacharevic and others are scattered through the old town — an old man sipping coffee, children with paper planes. A slow morning walk links most of them.

Concubine Lane

A narrow lane of restored shophouses packed with snack stalls, souvenir shops and cafés. It gets crowded on weekend afternoons, so come early for photos.

Cave Temples

Kek Lok Tong has a huge cavern opening onto landscaped gardens and a lake, Sam Poh Tong has a turtle pond and shrines deep in the rock, and Perak Tong is known for its murals and steep climb.

Lost World of Tambun

A theme park set among limestone cliffs, with water slides, a petting zoo, a tiger enclosure and natural hot springs that stay open into the evening. Easily the top pick for kids.

Kellie’s Castle

The unfinished mansion of a Scottish planter near Batu Gajah, about half an hour from town. Its brick arches and towers make it a favourite for photographs and ghost stories alike.

Heritage Buildings

The grand white Ipoh Railway Station, the Town Hall opposite and the old shophouse rows along the Kinta River show the wealth that tin mining once brought to the city.

What to Eat in Ipoh

Many Singaporeans drive up mainly to eat. These are the dishes locals are proudest of — ask your driver for a coffee-shop stop on the way in if you arrive hungry.

  • Ipoh white coffee — beans roasted with margarine, served thick and sweet with condensed milk
  • Bean sprout chicken — silky poached chicken with short, crunchy local bean sprouts
  • Kai si hor fun — flat rice noodles in a clear chicken and prawn broth
  • Salted chicken — whole chicken wrapped in paper and baked in hot salt, a classic takeaway
  • Tau fu fah — very smooth soybean pudding, best enjoyed in the afternoon heat
  • Dim sum breakfast — Ipoh’s morning dim sum halls are a weekend tradition

Ipoh and Cameron Highlands in One Trip

Ipoh sits at the foot of the main range, and the road up to Cameron Highlands starts close by at Simpang Pulai, about 1.5 to 2 hours from the tea farms. That makes a popular combination: spend a night or two in Ipoh for the food and caves, then head up into the cool air for tea and strawberries. The two destinations share the same fare from Singapore.

Tell us your full plan when booking. We can drop you in Ipoh, and arrange the onward leg to the highlands and the return to Singapore on the days you choose, or keep a car with you by the hour through our Day Trip Service.

Getting There and Choosing Your Vehicle

The drive is almost entirely on the North–South Expressway: through Johor, past Melaka and Kuala Lumpur, then north through Perak’s limestone country. Expect about 6.5 to 7.5 hours including the checkpoints and one or two rest stops, and more during festive seasons. An early-morning departure gets you to Ipoh in time for an afternoon coffee and a walk around the old town.

For a long highway run, choose space over price if you can. The Toyota Innova suits up to six passengers with light luggage. The Toyota Alphard, Vellfire or Hyundai Staria add reclining captain seats and room for two large suitcases — ideal with grandparents on board. Food-hunting groups of seven or more fit comfortably in the Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van, with space for all the salted chicken and biscuits you bring home.

Every Ride Includes

  • Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
  • Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
  • Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
  • Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
  • Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
  • 24/7 availability

Book Your Ipoh Transfer

Send us your Singapore pick-up point, Ipoh hotel, travel date and time, number of passengers and bags on WhatsApp. If you are adding Cameron Highlands or a return trip, include those dates too and we will confirm everything in writing. No deposit — pay on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Singapore to Ipoh?

About 6.5 to 7.5 hours door to door, including immigration and rest stops. Long weekends and festive periods such as Chinese New Year can add a few hours.

What is the fare for a private car from Singapore to Ipoh?

From SGD 510 one way in a Toyota Innova for the whole car, so a family of five or six pays one fare rather than a ticket each. Cameron Highlands is priced the same, which makes a combined Ipoh-and-highlands holiday easy to budget.

Can we stop for lunch in Kuala Lumpur or Melaka on the way?

A short meal stop near the highway is fine — mention it when booking. Longer detours into a city centre add time and may be charged as waiting time at SGD 40 per hour.

How many days do we need in Ipoh?

Two nights is enough for the old town, the main cave temples and a good round of eating. Add a day for Lost World of Tambun, or two more if you continue up to Cameron Highlands.

Can you take us from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands?

Yes. Many guests combine the two. Tell us your dates and we will plan the Ipoh drop-off, the transfer up the hill and the return to Singapore.

Is Ipoh good for a family trip with young kids?

Very. Lost World of Tambun, the cave temple turtle ponds and plenty of easy food make it a gentle trip. For toddlers we can fit a child seat for a small top-up — SGD 10 or RM 35 each — so just tell us their ages when you book.

Do we stay in the car at the checkpoints?

Yes. Everyone remains seated while passports are checked at the booth, so the suitcases for a long Ipoh weekend never have to come out of the boot.
