Private Car & Taxi from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore

The road from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore is long but simple: the North–South Expressway carries you most of the way, and the only real hurdles are the two checkpoints at the end. With a Luxway SGMY private car, someone else does the driving, your group has the whole vehicle to itself, and nobody has to unload luggage at the border — you stay seated while the driver handles the crossing and then takes you to your door in Singapore.

It suits people who would rather not deal with bus terminals or airport queues: families with young children, grandparents, travellers with a lot of luggage, and groups who find a single fare for the car cheaper than several air tickets. The fare includes tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking, there is no deposit, and you settle up with the driver in cash on arrival.

Where We Collect You in KL and the Klang Valley

The fare is the same across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Klang, so pick the address that suits you — a city hotel, a relative’s house or a serviced apartment.

KLCC & Bukit Bintang

Hotels around the Petronas Towers, Pavilion and Jalan Sultan Ismail. The driver meets you at the porch or lobby.

Bangsar, Mont Kiara & Damansara

Condos and family homes in the leafy suburbs west of the city. We collect from the guardhouse or the lobby drop-off.

Petaling Jaya & Subang Jaya

Houses, malls and hotels across PJ, SS2, Sunway and USJ — popular for visiting relatives before heading home.

Shah Alam & Klang

Same fare as central KL. Ideal if you have been enjoying bak kut teh in Klang and want to go straight home afterwards.

Cheras, Puchong & Putrajaya

Southern suburbs sit closer to the expressway, which can shorten the drive a little once you are on the road.

The Drive South: Timing and Rest Stops

Once out of the city, the route follows the North–South Expressway past Seremban, Melaka and through the length of Johor before reaching the border at either the Causeway or the Second Link. Without heavy traffic the driving part takes about four to five hours; checkpoint time comes on top and depends on the day.

The expressway has well-equipped R&R stops with toilets, food courts and prayer rooms — Ayer Keroh, Pagoh and Machap are favourites along this stretch. Ask for a break whenever you need one; a stop of fifteen or twenty minutes is normal on a drive this long.

  • Leaving KL early in the morning avoids city traffic and the late-afternoon border queues
  • Sunday afternoons and the end of public holidays are the busiest times to enter Singapore
  • Night departures are fine — we drive 24/7 and the roads are quieter

Comfortable for Families and Older Travellers

Four or five hours in a car is easy when the car is comfortable and nobody is rushing you. A few things our regular family customers appreciate:

  • No climbing in and out of the vehicle at immigration — helpful for anyone with mobility issues
  • Captain seats in the Alphard, Vellfire and Staria for long-distance comfort
  • Child seats on request (SGD 10 / RM 35 per seat)
  • Room for wheelchairs, strollers and boxes of local food to take home
  • Toilet and meal stops whenever you ask

For two big suitcases or more, choose the Alphard, Vellfire or Staria over the Innova. Groups of seven or more travel together in the Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van; see the MPV fleet for photos and luggage space.

Private Car, Bus or Flight?

Let’s be honest about the alternatives. An express coach from KL is the cheapest choice for one or two people travelling light; the trade-off is getting to a bus terminal, getting off with all your bags at both checkpoints, and finishing at a coach stop rather than your front door. A flight is the fastest in the air, at around an hour, but by the time you add the trip to the airport, check-in, security, baggage reclaim and the ride from Changi, the total journey often stretches to five hours or more.

A private car makes the most sense for groups of three or more, anyone with luggage, children or older relatives, and anyone who values going door to door without changes. Because you pay per vehicle, the cost per person drops quickly as the group grows. Heading the other way? See our Singapore to Kuala Lumpur page.

Every Ride Includes

  • Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
  • Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
  • Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
  • Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
  • Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
  • 24/7 availability

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore?

About 4 to 5 hours of driving, plus time at the checkpoints and any rest stops. Leaving early in the morning or late at night is usually quickest.

How much is a private car from KL to Singapore?

From SGD 340 one way in a Toyota Innova for the whole car, including tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking. All vehicle prices are in the table above.

Can you pick us up from KLIA after we land?

Please ask us on WhatsApp with your flight number and arrival time. We will confirm whether we can arrange it and quote the fare.

For a single traveller, usually not. For a family or group of three or more, one car fare often costs less than the combined air tickets, airport transfers and baggage fees.

Will the driver stop for meals and toilet breaks?

Yes. Just ask — the expressway has plenty of rest areas with food courts and clean toilets.

Do we stay in the car at the Malaysian and Singapore checkpoints?

Yes, all passengers remain seated with their luggage. Foreign visitors should submit the SG Arrival Card online within three days before reaching Singapore.

Can we break the journey in Melaka?

A short stop is fine if you mention it when booking. To spend a night or a full day there, book two separate legs, or see our Melaka page.
