Private Car from Singapore to Tanjung Gemok Ferry Terminal
Tanjung Gemok is the ferry terminal on the coast north of Mersing, one of the two departure points for Tioman Island ferries alongside the Mersing town jetty. It usually closes during the northeast monsoon, roughly November to February, when the remaining sailings run from Mersing. There is no town to explore here — it is a place to arrive on time, check in and board. That makes the drive from Singapore the part of your holiday most worth getting right.
A Luxway SGMY private car picks you up at home in Singapore at a time worked out from your ferry, stays with you through both checkpoints and pulls up at the terminal with all your luggage. The fare is per car and includes tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking. No deposit — you pay the driver when you arrive.

Planning the Drive Around Your Ferry
Ferries to Tioman run on fixed schedules that can change with the season and sea conditions, and they will not wait for a late car. This is the order we recommend:
- Buy the ferry ticket first. Confirm the departure time and that the ticket says Tanjung Gemok, not the Mersing town jetty
- Note the check-in time, not just the sailing time — the operator’s instructions on your ticket come first
- Send us both times on WhatsApp. We plan the pick-up backwards from check-in, with extra room for the checkpoints on busy days
- Expect an early start for a morning ferry. Leaving Singapore before dawn is normal; your driver arrives on time and you can sleep on the way
- Very early ferry? Some travellers drive up the evening before and stay a night in Mersing, which removes the checkpoint risk altogether
Before You Board: Practical Tips
The terminal is a transit point, so a little preparation in the car makes the handover to the ferry much smoother.
Pack for the boat
Keep passports, ferry tickets, water and any seasickness tablets in a small bag you can carry on. Big suitcases usually go into the ferry’s luggage hold.
Dive and snorkel gear
Tioman is a popular diving destination. Tell us how many gear bags you have so we send a vehicle with enough boot space.
Know your island stop
Ferries call at several villages along Tioman’s west coast, such as Tekek, Air Batang (ABC) and Salang. Check which one is closest to your stay.
Cash for the island
Bring some Malaysian ringgit for small shops, island transport and any fees collected at the jetty. Card payment is not available everywhere.
Weather days
Sailings can be changed or cancelled in rough seas. If your ferry is affected before you set off, message us and we will move your pick-up where we can.
Air Papan beach
Arrived early? Pantai Air Papan, a quiet stretch of sand on the coast north of Mersing, is a pleasant place to stretch your legs before check-in.
Getting Home from Tioman
For the return, book your ferry back to Tanjung Gemok and give us its scheduled arrival time. Crossings can run late, so drop us a message when you board on the island — your driver will be waiting at the terminal when you come off the boat. If the arrival slips well past the agreed time, waiting is charged at SGD 40 per hour.
Booking both directions together is the simplest way to make sure a car is waiting for you on the mainland. Want to stop in Mersing for seafood or at Kota Tinggi on the way home? Add it to your booking. For more on the town itself, see our Singapore to Mersing page.
Which Vehicle for Tanjung Gemok?
A week on Tioman usually means a big suitcase each. The Alphard, Vellfire or Staria holds two large cases plus four hand-carry bags and has reclining captain seats for a pre-dawn start. The Toyota Innova is the economical choice for travellers with one large case between them. Dive groups and families of seven or more travel together in the Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van. Up to four passengers with soft bags can also choose the standard car.
Every Ride Includes
- Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
- Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
- Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
- Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
- Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
- 24/7 availability

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tanjung Gemok the same as Mersing jetty?
No. Mersing jetty is in the town itself; Tanjung Gemok is a separate ferry terminal further up the coast. Check which one is printed on your ticket and tell us when you book.
How long does it take to get from Singapore to Tanjung Gemok?
Plan on about 3 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours door to door. Holiday weekends at the checkpoint can add more, which is why we build in a buffer before your ferry check-in.
How much is a private car to Tanjung Gemok?
From SGD 220 one way in a Toyota Innova, the same as Mersing. Ferry tickets and any Tioman marine-park fee are paid separately to the ferry operator and the park.
What time should we leave Singapore for a morning ferry?
It depends on your check-in time and the day of the week. Send us your ferry details and we will suggest a pick-up time — for morning sailings this is usually before sunrise.
What if our ferry is cancelled because of the weather?
Let us know as soon as you hear from the ferry operator. If you have not set off, we will try to move your booking to a new date. Ferry refunds and rebooking are handled by the operator.
Will the driver meet us when we come back from Tioman?
Yes, when you book the return leg. Give us your ferry’s scheduled arrival and message us when you board; the driver will be at the terminal. Waiting beyond the agreed time is SGD 40 per hour.
Can we bring dive equipment and a child seat?
Yes. List your gear bags when booking so we send the right vehicle. Child seats are available on request for SGD 10 (RM 35) per seat.
