Private Car from Singapore to Sekinchan

Sekinchan is a small farming and fishing town on the Selangor coast, famous for its flat sea of paddy fields, the ribbon-covered Wishing Tree by the beach and plates of fresh seafood straight off the boats. It is one of the few places in Peninsular Malaysia where you can watch rice grow right up to the horizon — and it is a long way from any train line, which is exactly why a private car makes sense.

Luxway SGMY collects your group from any address in Singapore, keeps you in the vehicle through both checkpoints and drives you straight to your homestay or hotel in Sekinchan. The fare is per car and already includes tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking — no deposit, you simply pay the driver when you arrive.

Things to Do in Sekinchan

Sekinchan is spread out: the paddy fields run inland, the fishing jetty and beach sit on the coast, and the best seafood restaurants are scattered between them. Having your own car means you can hop between them at your own pace instead of walking along hot rural roads.

The Paddy Fields

Neat green or golden rectangles of rice stretch for kilometres, cut by narrow farm roads and irrigation canals. Early morning and late afternoon give the softest light for photos.

Wishing Tree at Redang Beach

A lone tree by the shore at Pantai Redang, hung with hundreds of red ribbons and wishing cards. Visitors write a wish, toss it up into the branches and watch the sunset over the Strait of Malacca.

Fishing Village & Jetty

Colourful boats, nets drying in the sun and fishermen unloading the day’s catch. It is a working village, so wander respectfully and watch for moving vehicles along the jetty roads.

Seafood Lunch or Dinner

Steamed fish, crabs, prawns and lala clams cooked Chinese-style are the reason many Singaporeans make the trip. Restaurants near the jetty get busy at weekends, so go a little early.

Paddy Gallery

A small rice-processing gallery explains how paddy becomes the rice on your plate, from planting and milling to packing — handy for kids, and a good place to buy local rice to take home.

Kuala Selangor Side Trip

About 45 minutes down the coast, Kuala Selangor has Bukit Melawati hill with its friendly leaf monkeys and the famous firefly boat rides along the river after dark.

Best Time to See the Paddy Fields

Sekinchan grows rice in two cycles a year, so what you see depends on timing. A few weeks after planting the fields turn bright green; shortly before harvest they glow golden; just after harvest they are cut stubble and bare mud. The exact months shift from year to year with the weather and the farmers’ schedule, so it is worth checking recent photos or asking your homestay before you fix a date.

Whatever the season, the fields are flat and exposed. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water, and plan your outdoor time for the cooler early morning or late afternoon. Weekdays are noticeably quieter than weekends and school holidays.

The Drive from Singapore to Sekinchan

After crossing at Woodlands or the Tuas Second Link, the route follows the North–South Expressway up past Melaka and Seremban towards the Klang Valley, then leaves the highway for the coastal road north through Kuala Selangor. The last stretch is a two-lane country road through palm oil estates and small towns, so allow about 5.5 to 6.5 hours door to door — longer on Friday evenings, public holidays and the start of school breaks.

Your driver will stop at highway rest areas (R&R) for toilets, food and stretching. Many families like to leave Singapore early in the morning so they reach Sekinchan in time for a late seafood lunch and the sunset at the Wishing Tree.

  • Tell us if you want to stop in Kuala Lumpur or Kuala Selangor on the way — we will plan the route around it
  • Bring passports for everyone, and keep them in the car — you stay seated through both checkpoints
  • Share your homestay’s exact address or map pin; some places in the fields are down narrow farm lanes
  • Return trips can be booked for any day — your driver collects you from your accommodation

Which Vehicle for Sekinchan?

Six hours is a long ride, so comfort matters more than on a short Johor trip. Couples and small families with modest luggage do well in the Toyota Innova. If you have older parents or want to nap on the way, the Alphard, Vellfire or Hyundai Staria’s captain seats and extra legroom are well worth it, and they take two big suitcases. Bigger groups — cousins, friends or a photography club — can share a Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van, which brings the per-person cost right down.

Planning to explore Selangor for a whole day rather than just transfer? Our Day Trip Service keeps the car and driver with you by the hour. You can also continue on to Kuala Lumpur afterwards — just ask when you book.

Every Ride Includes

  • Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
  • Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
  • Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
  • Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
  • Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
  • 24/7 availability

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to drive from Singapore to Sekinchan?

Around 5.5 to 6.5 hours door to door, including the checkpoints and a rest stop. Heavy holiday traffic or long immigration queues can add an hour or more.

How much is a private car from Singapore to Sekinchan?

From SGD 400 one way in a Toyota Innova for the whole car. Because it is a long ride for a short stay, most visitors book a one-way drop and a separate return pick-up a day or two later.

Is Sekinchan worth visiting outside the paddy season?

Yes, if you enjoy seafood and slow village scenery. The fishing jetty, the Wishing Tree sunset and the food are there all year — only the colour of the fields changes.

Can we visit the Kuala Selangor fireflies on the same trip?

Yes. Kuala Selangor is on the way and the fireflies are seen after dark. Tell us your plan when booking so we can arrange the drop-off timing, or book our hourly Day Trip Service for a flexible evening.

Can the driver wait while we sightsee and then take us back?

Yes. Waiting time on a transfer is SGD 40 per hour, or you can book our Day Trip Service by the hour. Most visitors stay overnight, though, as the drive each way is long.

Do you provide child seats for the long drive?

Yes, on request for a small top-up of SGD 10 (RM 35) per seat. Please tell us your child’s age when you book.

Do we need to get out at immigration?

No. You stay in the car at both checkpoints. For a drive this long we suggest leaving Singapore early, so you clear the border before the morning queues build.
