Private Car from Singapore to Muar

Muar is the royal town of Johor and, for many Singaporeans, simply the place to eat. Mee bandung, otak-otak, satay and asam pedas draw weekend crowds, while the riverside, the old shophouse streets and the grand mosque on the waterfront make it worth staying longer than one meal. It sits on the west coast, about two and a half to three hours from Singapore by road.

A Luxway SGMY private car collects you anywhere in Singapore, keeps your group seated through both checkpoints, and takes you straight to your hotel, a relative’s home or the first food stall on your list. With one car for the day’s eating, you decide how long to linger at each shop — and you pay the driver only at the end, with no deposit.

What to Eat in Muar

Muar’s food reputation is the main reason most people make the trip. Locals will argue about which stall is best, so treat this as a starting list and ask your driver or your hosts for their favourites.

Mee Bandung Muar

Yellow noodles in a thick, sweet-savoury gravy built on dried shrimp and chilli, topped with egg, beef or prawns. It is the dish most closely tied to the town’s name.

Muar Otak-Otak

Spiced fish paste grilled in leaves over charcoal. Many visitors buy a few packs to bring home — tell us and we will make sure there is space in the car for a cooler bag.

Satay Muar

Muar’s satay is known for its sweeter marinade and a peanut sauce served with a side of chilli. An easy evening snack after a long day of walking.

Asam Pedas

A sour, spicy fish stew with tamarind and chilli, popular across the Johor and Melaka coast and a staple of Muar’s Malay eateries at lunchtime.

Bentayan hawker area

The Bentayan area near the town centre is a popular place to sample several stalls in one sitting. Ask your driver to drop you close by and collect you after.

Kopitiam breakfast

Muar’s old coffee shops serve strong local coffee with kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs. An early start from Singapore puts you there in time for a late breakfast.

Things to Do in Muar

Between meals, Muar rewards a slow wander. Its compact centre is easy to cover on foot, and a private car makes the outlying stops simple.

  • Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque — a striking colonial-era mosque on the bank of the Muar River, best photographed from the riverside in the late afternoon
  • Tanjung Emas riverside — a breezy park and promenade at the river mouth, good for an evening stroll after dinner
  • Heritage shophouse streets — pre-war shophouses, old trading houses and family businesses that have run for generations
  • Parit Jawa — a fishing village south of town known for seafood restaurants by the water
  • Gunung Ledang and Tangkak — the mountain and the fabric-shopping town of Tangkak are within reach for a longer day out

The Drive and Your Day

Most trips head north on the North–South Expressway and leave it for the last stretch into town. Your driver chooses the Tuas Second Link or the Woodlands Causeway depending on queues that day. A rest-stop break on the expressway is no problem — just ask.

Going for the day? Muar is a long day trip — about five to six hours on the road in total — so our Day Trip Service (8, 10 or 12 hours) usually suits better than two separate transfers. Staying overnight with family or for a wedding? Book a one-way drop now and a return pick-up for the day you leave.

Which Vehicle for Muar?

For a couple or a small family going to eat, the Toyota Innova is comfortable and the most economical MPV. On a long drive with grandparents, the Alphard, Vellfire or Staria’s captain seats make a real difference. Extended families heading to a wedding or reunion can travel together in the Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van, and up to four passengers with light bags can choose the standard car.

Every Ride Includes

  • Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
  • Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
  • Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
  • Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
  • Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
  • 24/7 availability

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to drive from Singapore to Muar?

Usually about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours. Friday evenings, school holidays and public holidays can add time at the checkpoints.

How much is a private car from Singapore to Muar?

From SGD 220 one way in a Toyota Innova. Most Muar visits are a long day of eating, so if you want the car between stalls and back home the same night, a Day Trip Service package is often simpler than two one-way trips.

Can we do Muar as a day trip from Singapore?

Yes, but plan for a full day. Book our Day Trip Service so the car and driver stay with you while you eat and explore, then drive you home the same evening.

Can the driver stop at several food places in Muar?

With the Day Trip Service, yes — the car is yours for the hours you book. On a one-way transfer, list any stops you want when you book and we will confirm them with you before the trip.

Can I bring otak-otak and other food back to Singapore?

There is room in the car for a cooler bag. What you may bring across the border is decided by Singapore’s import rules, so please check the latest guidelines for meat and seafood items before you buy.

Do we need to get out of the car at immigration?

No. Everyone stays seated at both checkpoints. On the way home, keep passports and your food haul within reach, as Singapore officers may ask what you are bringing back.

Can you pick us up in Muar for the return to Singapore?

Yes. Book a return trip or a separate one-way ride from Muar, give us the address and time, and your driver will be there.
