Private Car from Singapore to Mersing

Mersing is a small fishing town on Johor’s east coast and the starting point for the islands of the Johor Marine Park — Rawa, Besar and their neighbours. Most visitors pass through on the way to a boat, but the town has good seafood, shops full of dried anchovies and salted fish, and a relaxed river-mouth setting worth an hour or two.

The catch with island trips is timing: boats leave at set times, and missing one can cost you half a day. A Luxway SGMY private car leaves from your door in Singapore at the hour that suits your boat, keeps everyone seated through both checkpoints and drops you at the jetty with your bags. One fare per car covers tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking, with no deposit.

Things to Do in and Around Mersing

Whether you are catching a boat or spending a night in town, these are the stops most travellers make.

Mersing Jetty

The riverside jetty in town is where resort and island boats for Rawa and several other Marine Park islands depart. We drop you right at the entrance.

Rawa Island

A small island with powdery sand and clear water, reached by boat from Mersing. Stays are arranged through the island’s resorts, which also confirm the boat time.

Island-hopping and snorkelling

Local operators run day trips around the Marine Park islands. Leave early from Singapore and you can be on the water by late morning.

Seafood in town

Fresh fish, prawns and squid are cooked simply in the restaurants around the town centre — a good lunch before your boat or dinner after you return.

Dried seafood shops

Mersing is known for its anchovies, salted fish and keropok. Pick some up on the way home; there is space in the boot for your shopping.

Kota Tinggi on the way

The road to Mersing passes through Kota Tinggi, known for the evening fireflies on its river and the old Johor Lama fort — an easy add-on for the return leg (its waterfall has been closed since late 2024).

Timing Your Car to the Boat

Book your boat or resort package first, then book the car around it. Here is how we plan the timing with you:

  • Send us your boat departure time and the jetty printed on your ticket — Mersing town jetty or the Tanjung Gemok terminal further north
  • We work backwards from your check-in time and add a buffer for the checkpoints, so early boats usually mean a pre-dawn pick-up
  • On the way back, boats can run late with the weather or the tide; message us when you board and your driver will be ready at the jetty
  • If your driver waits beyond the agreed time, waiting is charged at SGD 40 per hour — a whole-day hold is often better value with our Day Trip Service

Planning to come back the same day after a snorkelling trip? Our Day Trip Service keeps one car and driver with you for 8, 10 or 12 hours.

Tioman ferries leave from both the town jetty and the Tanjung Gemok terminal further north — which one depends on the operator and the season. If Tioman is your island, see our Singapore to Tanjung Gemok page for the details.

Best Time to Visit Mersing

The east coast feels the northeast monsoon from roughly November to February. Seas get rough, and many island resorts and boat services close or cut back during these months. The calmer stretch from about March to October is the main island season, with the busiest weekends falling in the Singapore and Malaysian school holidays — book the car early for those dates.

Which Vehicle for Mersing?

Island trips mean more luggage than you think — snorkel gear, beach bags, a cooler. The Toyota Innova suits couples and small families packing light. The Alphard, Vellfire or Staria takes two big suitcases plus hand-carry bags and gives everyone room to doze on an early start. Dive clubs and big groups fit best in the Toyota Hiace or 18-seater van, and up to four passengers with soft bags can save with the standard car.

Every Ride Includes

  • Fixed, all-inclusive fare — tolls, fuel, and parking covered
  • Zero deposit — pay your driver in cash on arrival
  • Door-to-door service — no transfers, no bus terminals
  • Stay in the vehicle through immigration at both crossings
  • Professional, experienced cross-border drivers
  • 24/7 availability

Book Your Mersing Transfer

WhatsApp us your pick-up address, travel date, number of passengers and — most importantly — your boat time and jetty. We will suggest a pick-up time and send a written confirmation. Zero deposit, pay the driver on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Singapore to Mersing?

About 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes door to door, depending on the checkpoint queue and traffic through Kota Tinggi.

What does a private car from Singapore to Mersing cost?

From SGD 220 one way in a Toyota Innova for the whole car. Boat tickets and any marine-park fees are separate and are paid to the operators at the jetty.

Does the Tioman ferry leave from Mersing jetty?

Not always. Tioman ferries sail from both the town jetty and the Tanjung Gemok terminal north of town, depending on the operator and the season. Always check the jetty on your ticket and tell us when you book — we will drive you to the right one.

What happens if our return boat is late?

Message us when you leave the island so your driver can adjust. Extra waiting beyond the agreed pick-up time is SGD 40 per hour.

Can we stop for seafood or dried-goods shopping before heading home?

Yes. Tell us when you book and we will plan the stop into the return trip. For a longer day of stops, the Day Trip Service keeps the car with you by the hour.

Is it worth going to Mersing during the monsoon?

From about November to February many island boats and resorts close or run reduced schedules. Check with your resort or boat operator before booking the car.

Do we stay in the car at the checkpoints?

Yes. Everyone remains in the vehicle at both checkpoints, which matters when the boot is full of snorkel gear and coolers. Just keep passports in a pocket or handbag rather than packed under the luggage.
