Malaysia Trip Planner from Singapore

Pick a place, how long you have, who is coming and what you enjoy. For each of our 17 destinations the planner has a day trip, a 2D1N and a 3D2N plan, the vehicle that fits your group, the all-inclusive prices for the whole car — transfers and Day Trip packages — and a few tips for the checkpoints, from a Mount Austin food run to three days in Penang.

How the trip planner works

Every plan is built from our own destination guides and blog posts, written for travellers leaving from Singapore. Change the travellers or interests and the plan swaps in stops that suit them; the fare updates with the vehicle.

  • Day trips use our Day Trip Service: one car and driver stay with you for 8, 10 or 12 hours, from your first pick-up in Singapore until you are back at your door. Extra time is charged per hour.
  • Overnight trips use a return transfer: we drop you on the first day and collect you on the last, at the times you choose. On a transfer the driver can wait for you at SGD 40 per hour. Want the car for a day of sightseeing in between? Add a Day Trip package for that day.
  • Places more than about four hours away are long or impractical as day trips. The planner says so — Kuala Lumpur and Genting are a very long day, while Sekinchan, Ipoh, Cameron Highlands and Penang need at least one night.
  • Fares are per car and the same in both directions, with tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking included. There is no deposit, and you stay in the car through both checkpoints.
  • Attraction tickets, meals and hotels are not included. Times in the plans are a suggestion; check opening hours on each attraction's official site.

Two ways to book: transfers and Day Trip packages

Every plan on this page can be booked in one of two ways, or a mix of both. Both are priced per car, all-inclusive of tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking, with zero deposit — you pay the driver.

Transfers: one way or return

A fixed fare per car for each destination, the same price in both directions. We drop you at your hotel, resort or first stop and come back at the time you choose. Best when you stay in one place or overnight.

On a transfer the driver can wait at SGD 40 per hour; an extra pick-up or drop-off point is SGD 10 and a child seat SGD 10.

Day Trip Service: car and driver on call

One car and driver stay with you for 8, 10 or 12 hours, counted from your pick-up in Singapore until you are dropped back home. Best when you move between several stops in a day. Extra time is charged per hour.

Mersing Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Mersing is the gateway to the Marine Park islands: leave early to be on the water by late morning for island-hopping and snorkelling, eat seafood in town, then stock up on anchovies, salted fish and keropok on the way home. Best from about March to October.

Day trip

Mersing is about 2 hr 45 min – 3 hr 30 min each way, so a same-day island trip is a long day of around 13–14 hours, and the boat times decide it. It fits a 12-hour Day Trip package plus about 1–2 extra hours. To stay on an island, see the 3D2N plan.

6:00 am Leave Singapore → 9:15 am Mersing Jetty → 9:30 am Island-hopping & snorkelling → 2:30 pm Late seafood lunch in town → 3:30 pm Dried seafood shops → 4:15 pm Head home

Day 2: All day Island day

Day 3: Boat back Boat to Mersing → On arrival Dried seafood shops → On the way Riverside lunch in Kota Tinggi

Tanjung Gemok Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Tanjung Gemok is the ferry terminal for Tioman. Buy the ferry ticket first, send us the check-in time, and we plan the pick-up backwards from it — usually a pre-dawn start. On the way home, tell us the ferry's arrival time and the driver is waiting at the terminal.

Day trip

Tanjung Gemok is the ferry terminal for Tioman, about 3 hr 15 min – 4 hr from Singapore, and there is no town to explore. Tioman and back in one day is not practical: book a one-way drop-off for your ferry and a pick-up for the day you come back. See the 3D2N plan.

2D1N

One night on Tioman means two travel days back to back: about 3¼–4 hours by road each way plus the ferry, and the ferry times decide everything. It works if the sailings suit you; most travellers stay two nights or more.

Day 1: Pre-dawn Leave Singapore → Before check-in Tanjung Gemok terminal → Ferry Ferry to Tioman → Evening First evening on the island

Day 2: Morning A morning on Tioman → Ferry back Ferry to Tanjung Gemok → On arrival Driver waiting at the terminal

3D2N

Day 1: Pre-dawn Leave Singapore → Before check-in Tanjung Gemok terminal → Afternoon Ferry to Tioman

Day 2: All day Island day

Day 3: Ferry back Ferry to Tanjung Gemok → On arrival Driver waiting at the terminal

Day trip

7:30 am Leave Singapore → 9:30 am Feed the goats & sheep → 11:00 am Farm walk & farm shop → 12:30 pm Lunch at Kluang Rail Coffee → 2:00 pm Kluang town → 3:15 pm Head home

Port Dickson Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Port Dickson is a beach-resort weekend: a siew pau stop in Seremban on the way, an afternoon at the resort or Teluk Kemang Beach, and an early start on the Cape Rachado lighthouse trail or rock pools at Blue Lagoon before the drive home.

Day trip

Port Dickson is about 3.5–4 hours each way — seven to eight hours on the road — so a day trip leaves only about 3–4 hours at the coast. It fits a 12-hour Day Trip package with an early start; most guests stay at least one night.

6:00 am Leave Singapore → 8:00 am R&R break → 9:30 am Seremban siew pau → 10:30 am Blue Lagoon rock pools → 12:30 pm Lunch at Teluk Kemang Beach → 2:00 pm Head home

Kuala Lumpur Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Kuala Lumpur rewards three days: KLCC and Bukit Bintang with dinner on Jalan Alor, an early Batu Caves morning then Merdeka Square, Central Market and Petaling Street, and a last morning before the drive home. We drop you at any hotel door in KL.

Day trip

Kuala Lumpur is about 4–5 hours each way, so a same-day return means 8–10 hours on the road and only about 3–4 hours in the city — a very long day of around 13 hours. It fits a 12-hour Day Trip package plus about 1–2 extra hours. Most guests stay overnight: see 2D1N.

Day 3: 9:00 am One last morning → 12:00 pm Pick-up at your hotel

Genting Highlands Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Genting Highlands is best as an overnight: a very early start, a stop at the Premium Outlets on the way up, SkyAvenue and Skytropolis for the evening, and Genting SkyWorlds or the Awana SkyWay cable car the next morning. Bring a light jacket for the cool mountain air.

Day trip

Genting is about 5–5.5 hours each way, so a same-day return is a very long day of around 14 hours with only 2–3 hours on the mountain. It is possible with a very early start on a 12-hour Day Trip package plus about 2 extra hours, but most guests stay overnight: see 2D1N.

5:30 am Leave Singapore → 11:00 am SkyAvenue & Skytropolis → 12:30 pm Lunch at the summit → 1:30 pm Premium Outlets on the way down → 2:30 pm Head home

Day 3: 9:00 am Awana SkyWay & Chin Swee Caves Temple → 1:00 pm Pick-up for home

Sekinchan Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Sekinchan is a slow weekend: leave early for a late seafood lunch by the jetty, paddy fields at golden hour and sunset at the Wishing Tree on Redang Beach, then the fields at first light, the Paddy Gallery and the fishing village before the drive home.

Day trip

Sekinchan is about 5.5–6.5 hours each way, so a same-day return would mean 11–13 hours of driving and almost no time among the paddy fields — it is not practical. We recommend 2D1N or 3D2N.

2D1N

Day 1: 6:30 am Leave Singapore → 1:00 pm Late seafood lunch → 2:30 pm Check in and rest → 5:00 pm Paddy fields at golden hour → 6:30 pm Wishing Tree at Redang Beach

Day 2: 7:30 am Fields at first light → 10:00 am Paddy Gallery → 11:00 am Fishing village & jetty → 12:00 pm Early seafood lunch, then pick-up

Day 3: 8:00 am One last look at the fields → 10:00 am Pick-up for home

Ipoh Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Ipoh is a food-and-heritage trip: old-town murals and Concubine Lane, bean sprout chicken and salted chicken, the cave temples or Lost World of Tambun, and a weekend dim sum breakfast before the drive home. Easy to combine with Cameron Highlands.

Day trip

Ipoh is about 6.5–7.5 hours each way, so a same-day return is not practical: it would be 13–15 hours of driving. Stay at least one night — 3D2N is the relaxed choice, 2D1N the quick one.

2D1N

With 6.5–7.5 hours on the road each way, a 2D1N gives you one afternoon and evening plus one morning in Ipoh. 3D2N is far more relaxed.

Day 1: 6:30 am Leave Singapore → 2:00 pm Hotel drop-off, white coffee → 4:00 pm Old Town murals & Concubine Lane → 7:00 pm Bean sprout chicken dinner

Day 2: 8:00 am Dim sum breakfast → 9:30 am Kek Lok Tong cave temple → 11:00 am Pick-up for home

3D2N

Day 3: 8:00 am Dim sum breakfast → 10:00 am Pick-up for home

Cameron Highlands Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Cameron Highlands needs at least two nights: the long drive up on day one with Kea Farm market and a steamboat dinner, tea at BOH, strawberry picking and the Mossy Forest on day two, and the drive home on day three. Cool all year — pack a light jacket.

Day trip

Cameron Highlands is about 7–8 hours each way, including 1.5–2 hours of mountain road, so a same-day return is not practical. Give it at least two nights (3D2N); 2D1N is possible but rushed.

2D1N

Two long driving days of 7–8 hours each, with one afternoon and one morning in the highlands. We recommend 3D2N.

Day 1: 6:00 am Leave Singapore → 2:30 pm Check in at Tanah Rata or Brinchang → 4:00 pm Kea Farm market & flower gardens → 7:00 pm Steamboat dinner

Day 2: 8:30 am BOH tea plantation → 10:30 am Strawberry farm → 12:00 pm Pick-up for home

3D2N

Day 3: 9:00 am Pick-up for home

Penang Day trip · 2D1N · 3D2N

Penang is one of our longest routes, so give it at least three days: the street art trail and George Town heritage zone, hawker food from char kway teow to assam laksa, Kek Lok Si and Penang Hill at sunset. With kids or grandparents, break the drive with a night in KL or Ipoh.

Day trip

Penang is about 8–9 hours each way, so a same-day return is not practical. We recommend 3D2N — or 2D1N if you are short on time, a night in KL or Ipoh on the way, or flying home and booking the drive one way.

2D1N

Two driving days of 8–9 hours each, with one evening and one morning in Penang. It works for adults who don't mind long days; 3D2N is far better, and so is flying home after a one-way drive.

Day 1: 6:00 am Leave Singapore → 3:00 pm Hotel drop-off → 6:30 pm Hawker dinner at Gurney Drive

Day 2: 7:30 am Street art trail → 9:00 am George Town heritage zone → 10:30 am Pick-up for home

Trip Planner FAQ

Does Luxway SGMY provide a tour guide?

No. We are a private car service: you get the whole car and a professional cross-border driver. The itineraries here are ideas to help you plan; you choose the stops, and entry tickets, meals and hotels are arranged and paid by you. Our drivers know the routes well, but they are drivers, not licensed tour guides.

Is the fare in the trip planner the final price?

It is our published fare for the whole car, the same as on our rate pages: tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking are included, and there is no deposit. Extra pick-up or drop-off points on a transfer (SGD 10 each), waiting time on a transfer (SGD 40 per hour), child seats (SGD 10 each), a pick-up between 1am and 6am (SGD 10) or extra hours on a Day Trip package (SGD 35 to 60 per hour, depending on the vehicle) are added only if you need them. Send the plan on WhatsApp and we confirm the total in writing.

What's the difference between a return transfer and a day trip?

A return transfer is two fixed-fare rides: we drop you at your destination and come back for you at the time you choose, at the same fare per car in each direction. If you want the driver to stay, waiting is SGD 40 per hour. A Day Trip is a car and driver on call for 8, 10 or 12 hours, counted from your pick-up in Singapore until you are back home, moving between as many stops as you like. Extra time is SGD 35 per hour in the Innova, SGD 40 in the Alphard, Vellfire or Staria and SGD 60 in the Hiace or 18-seater van. Choose the transfer when you stay in one place or overnight, and the Day Trip when you hop between stops.

Can I book a day trip to Melaka?

Yes. Melaka is about 3 to 3.5 hours each way, so book the 12-hour Day Trip package: SGD 350 in a Toyota Innova, SGD 400 in an Alphard or Vellfire, or SGD 420 in a Staria, for the whole car. It covers the drive both ways and leaves around five hours in the old town. For the Jonker Street night market and a river cruise at dusk, stay a night and book a return transfer instead.

Which places are too far for a day trip?

Roughly anything more than four hours each way. Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands are possible only as a very long day of around 13 to 14 hours (a 12-hour package plus extra hours), so most guests stay overnight. Sekinchan, Ipoh, Cameron Highlands and Penang are 5.5 to 9 hours each way, so we recommend at least one night; the planner shows a 2D1N and a 3D2N plan for each.

Can I keep the car for sightseeing on an overnight trip?

Yes. Book a transfer for the drive there and back, and a Day Trip package of 8, 10 or 12 hours for the day you want the car, for example Day 2 around Melaka. The planner shows the price for each option; send the plan on WhatsApp and we confirm the mix and the total in writing. If the driver needs to stay overnight in Malaysia, ask us on WhatsApp how it works and whether any extra charge applies.

Can I change the itinerary or add stops?

Yes. The plans are suggestions. Tell us the stops you want when you book; a short break for food or photos is usually easy to fit in, and on a long drive your driver can pull in at an expressway rest stop whenever you ask.

Do we get out of the car at the checkpoints?

No. With a Luxway SGMY private car you stay in the car through both the Singapore and Malaysian checkpoints. Every passenger needs their own passport, children and babies included.

Which vehicle should a big group take?

The Toyota Hiace carries up to 9 people with luggage, or 12 with backpacks only. The Van 18-Seater carries up to 13 with luggage, or 16 with backpacks only. For larger groups, ask us on WhatsApp.

Are the times and opening hours in the plans guaranteed?

No. The times are a suggested rhythm for the day, and checkpoint queues change from day to day. Attractions set their own opening days and hours, so check their official websites before you travel.
