The best Johor Bahru shopping mall depends on what you want from the day. For a quick trip just across the Causeway, JB City Square, KOMTAR JBCC and the new SKS City Mall JBCC are minutes from the checkpoint. For the widest choice under one roof, go to The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey. Families do well at Paradigm Mall JB, home shoppers head to the IKEA–AEON–Toppen cluster in Tebrau, and bargain hunters like KSL City Mall. This guide matches each mall to a purpose so you can plan the day around one or two of them rather than trying to see everything.

Near the checkpoint: quick in-and-out trips

JB City Square

The classic first stop for Singaporeans, with 200-plus shops, restaurants and services next to the Sultan Iskandar CIQ complex. Be aware that the mall is going through a major renovation planned to run until late 2027. It stays open during the works, but some shops have closed or moved temporarily, so check that a specific store is trading before you go.

KOMTAR JBCC

A smaller, more polished mall next to City Square. It is known for branded beauty and fashion names and makes a good pairing with City Square for a short afternoon. A pedestrian bridge to the future RTS Link station at Bukit Chagar is planned; the operator expects RTS Link passenger service to start in February 2027.

SKS City Mall JBCC

JB’s newest city-centre mall opened on 1 May 2026 in Bukit Senyum, directly connected to the Sheraton Johor Bahru. Tenants reported at launch include Village Grocer, Miniso, Pacific Kopi and the Jungle Gym indoor playground, with more stores opening in phases through the year.

The all-rounder: The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey

If you only have time for one mall, make it this one. Opened in 2019, it is the largest mall in Johor, with more than 300 tenants. Anchors include the SOGO department store, a GSC cinema, Harvey Norman, Nitori, Village Grocer and LEGO, plus big fashion chains and a large BookXcess. The development also includes an exhibition centre and a St Giles hotel tower, so there is often an event or fair on.

The mall’s website promotes a Maybank Singapore Tourist Privileges Programme, so if you bank with Maybank Singapore it is worth checking for current offers before you shop.

For families: Paradigm Mall JB

Paradigm Mall in Skudai is the go-to mall for keeping children busy. It has an ice-skating rink and ESCAPE Johor Bahru, a large indoor adventure park with rope courses, nets and climbing walls. ESCAPE tickets are sold online only, and visitors register their faces for entry, so sort that out the night before. Add a cinema, plenty of restaurants and a supermarket, and it is easy to spend a whole rainy day here.

For bargains: KSL City Mall

KSL in Taman Abad is the budget pick, known for affordable fashion, phone accessories, gadgets and a Lotus’s hypermarket. On Mondays, the streets nearby turn into one of the city’s busiest night markets. See our JB night market guide for the weekly line-up.

For the home: IKEA Tebrau, AEON Tebrau City and Toppen

These three sit side by side in Taman Desa Tebrau, so one stop covers a full home shopping list:

  • IKEA Tebrau opens daily from 10am to 10pm, according to IKEA Malaysia at time of writing, with a Swedish Restaurant, Bistro and Swedish Food Market. Compare prices with IKEA Singapore before you buy bulky items, as they are not always cheaper.
  • AEON Mall Tebrau City has more than 250 retailers, anchored by an AEON department store and supermarket, a TGV cinema, a food hall and a Tsutaya Bookstore.
  • Toppen, owned by Ikano and right next to IKEA, mixes retail and dining. A new ground-floor food hall, Toppen Foodland, with a Jaya Grocer alongside, is due to open in December 2026.

On the Second Link side

If you enter Johor via Tuas, these malls are easy to reach without driving into the city centre:

  • AEON Bukit Indah: a recently refurbished neighbourhood mall with an AEON supermarket, convenient for groceries.
  • Sunway Big Box Retail Park: an open, box-style retail park in Iskandar Puteri with around 100 outlets, including a BookXcess bookstore, and regular weekend bazaars.
  • Horizon Mall: a new open-air lifestyle mall in Horizon Hills, which opened in September 2026 with more outlets launching in phases.
  • Johor Premium Outlets: about 150 designer and name-brand outlet stores near Kulai. Read our Johor Premium Outlets guide for brands, food and tips.

For the view: Beletime Danga Bay

A sea-facing mall on the Danga Bay waterfront with a supermarket, cinema and restaurants looking out over the Strait of Johor. It works best late in the afternoon, ending with dinner as the sun goes down.

Tips for a smoother mall day

  • Go on a weekday. Weekends, Malaysian public holidays and Singapore school holidays bring the heaviest crowds, both in the malls and at the checkpoints.
  • Pair malls by area. City Square with KOMTAR JBCC, or IKEA with AEON Tebrau and Toppen. Driving across town between malls can eat an hour in traffic.
  • Bring a mix of payment options. Cards are widely accepted, many shops take QR payments, and some small stalls still prefer cash.
  • Know your GST relief. Singapore Customs gives GST import relief on new goods worth up to S$100 if you were away for under 48 hours, and up to S$500 for 48 hours or more, at time of writing. Keep receipts handy.
  • Time your return. Sunday evenings are usually the busiest time to head back. Leaving mid-afternoon or after dinner often helps.

Mall-hopping without the hassle

Public buses and ride-hailing work for one mall near the CIQ, but a multi-mall day with shopping bags is easier with your own car. With Luxway SGMY, a private car picks you up anywhere in Singapore and you stay in the vehicle through immigration at both checkpoints. Your purchases stay in the boot between stops, and fares are per car, covering tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking.

For a full day of shopping, our Day Trip Service keeps the car and driver with you for 8, 10 or 12 hours, so you can do Mid Valley Southkey in the morning and IKEA in the afternoon without waiting for rides. Planning a shorter visit? Our JB day trip guide has more ideas.

Book your JB shopping trip

See our Singapore to Johor Bahru private car page and the JB rate card for fares by vehicle. When you are ready, book online or Whatsapp us with your malls and timing. There is no deposit, and you pay the driver on arrival.
