Short answer: for a theme-park weekend with children, stay at Genting SkyWorlds Hotel, which links straight to the park. For the lowest price close to the action, book First World Hotel. For a special occasion, pick Crockfords, Genting Grand or the newly renamed RW Hotel. If you prefer quiet, golf and forest air, stay at Resorts World Awana on the mid-hill. All seven hotels on the hill are run by Resorts World Genting, so the real choice is about location, room size and budget, not brand.

This guide compares each one and flags a naming change from May 2026 that is easy to get wrong when booking. If you are still deciding what to do on the hill, start with our guide to things to do in Genting Highlands.

First, the 2026 name changes

On 11 May 2026 Resorts World Genting renamed two of its hotels, and the old names are still all over the internet:

  • The five-star hotel that used to be called Highlands Hotel is now RW Hotel.
  • The mid-range hotel that used to be called Resort Hotel has taken over the name Highlands Hotel.

In other words, a booking for “Highlands Hotel” made today is for the former Resort Hotel, not the five-star tower. Older reviews, blog posts and travel agent listings may use either name, so check the room type, photos and price before you pay. When you share your hotel with your driver, give the current name and, if in doubt, the old one too.

Peak or mid-hill?

Genting has two levels. The peak, at around 6,000 feet, is where most hotels sit, together with SkyAvenue mall, Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, Skytropolis indoor park, the casino and First World Plaza. The mid-hill, at about 3,100 feet, has Resorts World Awana, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, Eufloria and the lower station of the Awana SkyWay cable car.

Staying at the peak means you can walk to almost everything, even in the rain. Staying at the mid-hill means quieter nights, more greenery and a short ride up whenever you want the crowds.

Luxury: Crockfords, Genting Grand and RW Hotel

Crockfords

Crockfords is the flagship of the hill and has been rated five stars by Forbes Travel Guide. Expect butler service, in-room steam baths and a hushed, private feel that is a world away from the theme-park crowds outside. It suits a honeymoon, an anniversary or anyone who wants the hill’s best address. Rates are the highest on the mountain, and it is not built around children.

Genting Grand

Genting Grand is the classic five-star choice at the peak, with easy indoor access to the resort’s attractions and the M Spa for massages after a long day of walking. It is a comfortable middle ground for families who want more space and service than the budget towers without paying for Crockfords.

RW Hotel (formerly Highlands Hotel)

Relaunched in May 2026 as the flagship of the RW Hotels brand, this five-star tower has served guests since 1997 and has been recommended by Forbes Travel Guide for many years running. The refresh brought redesigned rooms and suites, new family-friendly and wellness suites, and a pool on the 18th floor with wide views. It is a good pick for a multi-generation trip where grandparents want a quiet suite and the children want a pool.

Mid-range: Highlands Hotel (formerly Resort Hotel)

This is the hotel that now carries the Highlands Hotel name. It sits in a quieter corner of the resort and offers comfortable rooms at a gentler price than the five-star towers. It works well for couples or friends who will spend most of the day out at the park, the outlets or SkyAvenue and simply want a calm room to come back to.

Families and groups: Genting SkyWorlds Hotel

If the theme park is the reason for your trip, this is the most convenient bed on the hill. A link bridge on Level 2 of the main block leads straight to Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, SkyAvenue and the casino, and the Arena of Stars concert hall is next door. The room types are built for groups:

  • Sixers with three queen beds, about 300 sq ft
  • Quads with two queen beds, about 260 sq ft
  • Kings with one king bed, about 220 sq ft
  • SkyWorlds Suite, about 550 sq ft with a bathtub

The lobby is themed around Genting’s Highland Heroes characters, who appear for meet-and-greets on weekend afternoons. The hotel has its own porch for drop-off and pick-up, which makes arrival with luggage and sleepy children much easier. At time of writing, breakfast is served at The Food Factory in First World Plaza.

Budget: First World Hotel

With 7,351 rooms, First World Hotel is listed by Guinness World Records as the largest hotel in the world, and its colourful towers are a Genting landmark. Rooms are compact (most standard, deluxe and triple rooms are about 180 sq ft), but the location is excellent: you step out into First World Plaza, with Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, food outlets and a link to SkyAvenue.

  • Tower 1 has Standard, Triple and World Club rooms.
  • Tower 2 has Deluxe, Superior Deluxe, Triple and World Club 2 rooms.
  • Tower 3 has the Y5 Deluxe and Y5 Triple rooms.

Triple rooms sleep three, which suits a couple with one child. If you need more space, the Superior Deluxe (about 320 sq ft) or the World Club rooms (about 430 sq ft with a living area) are worth the upgrade. At time of writing, early check-in carries a small fee depending on the hour, and the main guest must check in personally.

Mid-hill retreat: Resorts World Awana

Resorts World Awana sits at about 3,100 feet in the forest below the peak. It has an 18-hole mountain golf course, rainforest trails for walking and birdwatching, a heated pool and a poolside restaurant, and a free shuttle to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, about 5 to 10 minutes away. Golfers, nature lovers and anyone who finds the peak too busy will like it here. The trade-off is that you need a ride up to SkyAvenue and the theme parks, either on the Awana SkyWay cable car from the nearby station or by road.

Which hotel suits which trip?

  • Young children, theme park focus: Genting SkyWorlds Hotel, or a First World Triple room on a tighter budget.
  • Grandparents in the group: RW Hotel or Genting Grand, where lifts and indoor links keep walking short.
  • Couples: Crockfords for a treat, Highlands Hotel for value.
  • Large groups of six: a SkyWorlds Sixer keeps everyone in one room.
  • Golf or quiet weekend: Resorts World Awana.
  • Outlet shopping first: Awana, which is close to the Premium Outlets.

Booking tips

  • Book early for peak dates. Weekends, Malaysian school holidays, long weekends and big concerts fill the hill, despite more than 10,000 rooms across the resort.
  • Check the hotel name twice because of the 2026 renaming.
  • Weekdays are calmer and usually cheaper. Check the theme park’s closing day before you choose your dates; our Genting things-to-do guide lists it.
  • Pack a jacket. Nights at the peak are cool, especially after rain.
  • Check the cable car status. The Awana SkyWay closes for maintenance from time to time, which matters most if you stay at Awana.
  • Complete the MDAC before entering Malaysia if it applies to you; see our MDAC guide.

Arriving by private car

The road up to Genting is long and winding, and the hotels are spread across the peak and the mid-hill, so arriving straight at your hotel door makes a real difference with luggage, children or older parents. With Luxway SGMY, a private car collects you anywhere in Singapore, you stay in your seat through immigration at both checkpoints, and your driver takes you to whichever hotel you have booked, whether that is the SkyWorlds porch at the peak or the lobby at Awana. Our MPVs, such as the Toyota Alphard and Hyundai Staria, seat up to six with room for bags. Fares are per car and include tolls, fuel and checkpoint fees, there is no deposit, and you pay the driver on arrival. If you only want a single day on the hill, our Genting day trip guide explains how to plan it.

Plan your Genting stay

See vehicles and per-car fares on our Singapore to Genting Highlands private car page; fares start from SGD 380 one way in a Toyota Innova, and the trip home costs the same. Then Whatsapp us your dates, hotel and group size, or book on our online booking page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Highlands Hotel the same as RW Hotel?

Not any more. Since 11 May 2026, the five-star tower formerly called Highlands Hotel is RW Hotel, and the former Resort Hotel now uses the Highlands Hotel name. Check the room type and price on your booking to be sure which one you have.

Which Genting hotel is closest to the theme park?

Genting SkyWorlds Hotel. A link bridge on Level 2 of its main block connects directly to Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park and SkyAvenue.

Is First World Hotel good for families?

It is good value and very well located for Skytropolis and First World Plaza, but standard rooms are small. Families of three can book a Triple room; larger families are usually more comfortable in a SkyWorlds Hotel Quad or Sixer.

Is it better to stay at the peak or at Awana?

Stay at the peak if you want to walk to the theme parks, malls and restaurants. Choose Resorts World Awana on the mid-hill for golf, forest walks and quieter evenings, and use the cable car or a car to go up.

Can a private car drop us at any Genting hotel?

Yes. Your driver can drop you at the entrance of the hotel you have booked, at the peak or the mid-hill. Just tell us the hotel name when you book.
