Genting SkyWorlds is the outdoor theme park at the very top of Resorts World Genting, more than 6,000 feet above sea level. It has nine themed worlds built around films such as Ice Age, Rio, Epic, Robots, Independence Day and Planet of the Apes, with rides for toddlers through to thrill-seekers. At time of writing, the park opens daily from 10am to 6pm and closes every Tuesday, except on Malaysian national public holidays and school holidays. Tickets are dated and timed, so buy them online before you go.

This guide focuses on the park itself: which rides suit which ages, how the height rules and the virtual queue work, what happens when it rains, and how to plan the day. For everything else on the hill, from the Awana SkyWay to Chin Swee Caves Temple, see our things to do in Genting Highlands guide.

The nine worlds and the rides that matter

The park is laid out as a loop of themed areas. Each world has its own rides, snacks and shops, so it is easy to pace the day around the ones your group cares about. The table below lists the rides with their official thrill level and height rule. Where two numbers are given, the lower one is the minimum height, and children below the higher one must ride with a supervising companion.

The other two worlds are more about atmosphere. Studio Plaza, near the entrance, has the Immersive Studio, which the Malaysia Book of Records lists as the highest-altitude immersive arts studio in the country, plus the main souvenir shop. Eagle Mountain has a desert theme with food trucks and games; its planned motorbike-style coaster, Mad Ramp Peak, is still listed by the park as a future attraction. Pregnant guests are not allowed on most rides, so check each ride’s notes in the app.

Which rides suit your group?

Toddlers and children under 110cm

Little ones are well looked after. Blue Sky Carousel and Bigweld’s Zeppelins take riders from 80cm, the Rio teacups and Epic Voyage to Moonhaven from 90cm, and Samba Gliders is a gentle first coaster from 95cm. Mammoth Fun Zone in the Ice Age world is a big play area with a pirate ship and water jets, so pack a change of clothes. Remember that children under 90cm enter free.

Children between 110cm and 122cm

This is the sweet spot for families. Expedition Thin Ice and Invasion of the Planet of the Apes open up at 110cm, along with Boot Camp Training. An adult must ride with them until they reach 122cm.

Teens and adults

Once you are 122cm or taller, the big three are Acorn Adventure, which climbs about 65 feet before a splash finish, the Terraform Tower Challenge drop ride, and Alpha Fighter Pilots with its full loops. Add ESD Global Defender (130cm) and Independence Day: Defiance for the full set.

How the virtual queue (VQ) works

The free Genting SkyWorlds app does more than sell tickets. Its Virtual Queue, or VQ, lets you reserve a time slot for a ride instead of standing in line:

  1. Download the app, create a profile and link each ticket by scanning its QR code.
  2. Group everyone’s tickets together if you want to ride together.
  3. Pick a ride and a time slot, then turn up at the VQ entrance within your 30-minute window and scan the QR code.
  4. Once you have ridden, you can book the same or another ride again, subject to availability.

Most rides also have a normal standby queue, but ESD Global Defender and Boot Camp Training are VQ only, so book those early. If someone in your group has no smartphone, VQ kiosks inside the park can make bookings too. The app also shows live wait times and show schedules.

Rain, fog and the Rainy Day Guarantee

The highlands are often wet, and outdoor rides pause during heavy rain or strong wind. Tickets are not refunded for bad weather, because the park stays open. Instead, the park runs a Rainy Day Guarantee: when it is activated and the bad weather lasts an hour or more without a break, you can claim a free return ticket, valid for 12 months from your original visit. To qualify, register your tickets in the app with notifications switched on, keep your original ticket or booking email, and bring your passport on the return visit. It applies only to tickets bought from official channels or authorised agents, and some ticket types, such as combos and multi-day passes, are excluded.

If it does rain, head for the indoor rides: Expedition Thin Ice, Epic Voyage to Moonhaven and Invasion of the Planet of the Apes. Skytropolis, the separate indoor theme park inside the resort, is open from 11am to 9pm at time of writing and makes a good back-up.

A simple plan for the day

  • Before 10am: eat breakfast, link your tickets in the app and book a VQ slot for the ride you want most. Guests staying at a Resorts World Genting or Resorts World Awana hotel get early entry from 9:30am when they show their key card or booking confirmation.
  • 10am to 12pm: do the big outdoor rides first, while the weather is usually clearer and the queues are shorter.
  • 12pm to 2pm: lunch, then the indoor rides as the afternoon clouds roll in. Buck’s Cafe in the Ice Age world is the park’s largest restaurant.
  • 2pm to 5pm: catch a show and the Parade in the Sky, and fill gaps with VQ bookings.
  • Late afternoon: the park lists its daily parade and a Goodbye Show at Central Park near closing time; check the app for today’s times.

Your ticket shows an arrival time. You cannot enter before it, but you can enter any time after it until one hour before closing, and you may leave and come back within the ticket’s validity.

Practical tips

  • Dress in layers. Bring a light jacket, long trousers, closed shoes and a thin rain jacket. Costumes and full-face masks are not allowed.
  • Pack spare clothes for the water rides and the splash zone.
  • Go cashless. Have a card or e-wallet ready, as cash is not accepted inside.
  • Use the lockers at Studio Plaza, Rio, Andromeda Base or SkyAvenue Gateway for bags you do not need.
  • Rent a stroller at Guest Services if your child tires easily; the official FAQ lists single and double strollers.
  • Check the maintenance list. Some rides close for planned maintenance, and the park publishes the list on its website.

Getting to the park with a private car

From Singapore, Genting Highlands is about five to five and a half hours by road on a normal day, including both checkpoints and the climb. The park’s own advice is to park at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets at mid-hill and ride the cable car up to SkyAvenue, which takes about ten minutes, or to drive to SkyAvenue parking and follow the signs to the entrance. A private car makes either option easy: your driver can drop you at the cable car station or go straight up the hill, depending on queues and the weather.

With Luxway SGMY, the driver collects you anywhere in Singapore, and you stay in the car through immigration at both checkpoints. There is plenty of room for jackets, a stroller and the shopping you will pick up on the way home. Fares are per car and the same in both directions, from SGD 380 one way in a Toyota Innova, with no deposit; you pay the driver on arrival. Because the drive is long, most families stay at least one night; see our Genting Highlands hotels comparison. Our Genting day trip guide explains when a same-day return makes sense.

Plan your SkyWorlds trip

See vehicles and fares on our Singapore to Genting Highlands private car page, then Whatsapp us your date, hotel and group size, or book on our online booking page. Buy your park tickets and set up the app before you leave, and the day at the top will run much more smoothly.

Children under 90cm tall enter free. Several gentle rides, such as Blue Sky Carousel and Bigweld’s Zeppelins, take riders from 80cm with an adult.

Can I buy Genting SkyWorlds tickets at the gate?

The park sells dated, timed tickets with a daily limit and asks guests to buy online in advance through its website or app. Tickets are not transferable.
