Genting Highlands is much more than a casino on a hill. In 2026 the top things to do are a day at Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, the Awana SkyWay cable car with a stop at Chin Swee Caves Temple, the new Eufloria floral glasshouse, shopping at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, guided nature walks at Resorts World Awana and an evening at SkyAvenue. Resorts World Genting sits about 6,000 feet above sea level, so the air is cool, the clouds roll right past your window and the hill makes a real change from Singapore’s heat.

This guide sorts the attractions by type and adds the practical details that matter, such as closing days and what to book ahead. If you are planning a single day up and back, our Genting day trip guide covers whether a day trip is worth it.

Theme parks and indoor fun

Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park

The outdoor theme park at the peak is the main draw for families. It is divided into nine themed worlds with more than 20 rides and attractions inspired by films such as Ice Age, Rio, Epic, Robots, Night at the Museum, Independence Day and Planet of the Apes. Highlights include:

  • Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice – a family dark ride through scenes from the films.
  • Invasion of the Planet of the Apes – a 3D ride for older kids and adults.
  • Epic Voyage to Moonhaven – a boat ride with a big drop; expect to get wet.
  • Independence Day: Defiance – a flying theatre experience.
  • Immersive Studio – recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s highest-altitude immersive attraction.

At time of writing, the official park hours are 10am to 6pm, and the park closes every Tuesday except on Malaysian public holidays and school holidays. Hours are extended on some peak dates, so check the park’s official website before you go and buy tickets online in advance.

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

Skytropolis is an indoor amusement park at the peak with rides for all ages, many of them gentle enough for younger children. Because it is under a roof, it is the natural back-up when rain or thick fog stops play outdoors. Combo tickets with SkyWorlds are sometimes sold.

Cable cars, temples and views

Awana SkyWay

The Awana SkyWay gondola links Awana station at mid-hill, next to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, with SkyAvenue at the peak. On a clear day you glide over a sea of rainforest; on a misty one the cabin disappears into the clouds, which children usually find just as exciting. There is an intermediate stop at Chin Swee station, so you can hop off at the temple and continue later. The SkyWay runs from early morning until late evening, and it closes for maintenance from time to time, when the older Genting SkyWay from Gohtong Jaya takes over. Check the operating status on the Resorts World Genting website on the day.

Chin Swee Caves Temple

Set into the hillside at around 1,400 metres, this Chinese temple was completed in 1994 and is dedicated to Master Qingshui, known locally as Chin Swee. Its terraces have a pagoda, a large Buddha statue, detailed carvings and wide views over the valley. It is quieter than the peak and easy for older relatives to enjoy. The temple hosts festive bazaars at Chinese New Year. Dress modestly and keep your voice low in the prayer halls.

Shopping and dining

SkyAvenue

The mall at the peak is the social centre of Genting, with restaurants, cafés, fashion and souvenir shops. It connects directly to the Awana SkyWay’s top station, so you can step off the cable car and straight into lunch. Festive markets and seasonal events often take place here.

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

At mid-hill, beside the Awana SkyWay station, this open-air outlet mall has international and local brands at reduced prices. It is a sensible first or last stop, as it lies on the road up and back down the hill.

Eating on the hill

You will find everything from food courts and noodle shops to buffets and fine dining across SkyAvenue, First World Plaza and the hotels. The cool weather makes it a favourite place for steamboat and hot soup. Prices at the peak are higher than in KL, and popular restaurants have queues at weekends, so eat a little earlier or later than the crowds.

Gardens and nature

Eufloria

Resorts World Genting’s newest attraction describes itself as Malaysia’s largest floral glasshouse. The 3.7-acre complex in the mid-hills, near Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, has three main zones:

  • Zodiac Pavilion – giant zodiac sculptures and an indoor waterfall with a digital display.
  • Rainforest Grove – tropical rainforest plants, animal sculptures and an elevated canopy walk.
  • Garden of the Seasons – more than 30,000 seasonal flowers that change every few months.

At time of writing it opens from 10am to 6pm and is closed on Wednesdays (the official ticket terms also mention Thursdays) except on Malaysian public holidays and school holidays. Tickets must be bought online in advance, so check the opening calendar before you plan around it.

Genting Nature Adventures

Resorts World Awana, the resort at mid-hill, runs nature walks for visitors who want fresh air rather than rides. The Awana Trail is a gentle, paved route of about 2 km, while Clearwater Way is a longer guided route of about 6 km. Depending on the season you may spot birds, monkeys and dusky langurs. Book with the resort ahead of time.

Casino and nightlife

The casino at Resorts World Genting is still a big part of the hill’s story. Under Malaysian law, entry is restricted to non-Muslim adults aged 21 and above, and identification is checked at the door. For everyone else, the evening is about dinner at SkyAvenue, concerts and shows at the resort’s venues, and the lights of the peak in the mist. Check the Resorts World Genting events calendar for what is on during your stay.

Practical tips

  • Pack a light jacket. It is much cooler than Singapore, especially at night, in the rain and inside air-conditioned malls.
  • Expect fog and showers. Plan an indoor back-up, such as Skytropolis or SkyAvenue, for every outdoor activity.
  • Check the closing days. SkyWorlds closes on Tuesdays and Eufloria on Wednesdays outside holidays, so avoid planning both on the wrong day.
  • Visit on a weekday if you can. Weekends, school holidays and long weekends bring long queues for rides, the cable car and restaurants.
  • Book tickets online for the theme park and Eufloria before you set off.
  • Prepare for the winding road. Anyone prone to car sickness should sit in front and eat lightly before the climb.

Getting around Genting with a private car

Genting is spread across two levels, with the peak attractions at the top and the outlets, Eufloria, the temple and Resorts World Awana in the mid-hills. A car makes it easy to move between them with bags, children or older parents. With Luxway SGMY, your driver collects you anywhere in Singapore, you stay in the car through immigration at both checkpoints, and you can add a stop at Batu Caves on the way; our Batu Caves guide explains what to expect. Fares are per car and the same in both directions, with no deposit; you pay the driver on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which day is Genting SkyWorlds closed?

At time of writing, the park closes every Tuesday except on Malaysian public holidays and school holidays. Check the official SkyWorlds website for the latest calendar and any extended hours.

Yes. Most visitors come for the theme parks, the cable car, the cool weather, the outlets, Eufloria, the temple and the food. The casino is only one part of the resort.

How cold is Genting Highlands?

Noticeably cooler than Singapore or KL, especially in the evening and when it rains. A light jacket or long-sleeved top is enough for most people.

Yes. The SkyWay has an intermediate stop at Chin Swee station, so you can get off to visit the temple and then continue up or down the hill.

What can kids do at Genting on a rainy day?

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, the shops and restaurants of SkyAvenue, and the covered glasshouses at Eufloria all work well when the weather turns.
