If you reach Changi early, Jewel is the best place to spend the extra time. It sits on the public side of the airport, linked to Terminals 1, 2 and 3, so you can visit before you check in or after you drop your bags. The three things most people do are watch the Rain Vortex, walk through the Forest Valley and, with a bit more time, go up to Canopy Park on the top floor. Add a meal and some shopping, and two to three hours goes quickly. The key is to use early check-in where your airline allows it, keep an eye on the clock, and leave enough time for immigration and the walk to your gate.

Below are the main things to do, what is free, what needs a ticket, and simple plans for different amounts of time. Opening hours are from Jewel's official website at the time of writing; check it again before you go, as hours and prices change.

Before you start: bags and check-in

Sort out your luggage first. Several attractions do not allow luggage or wheeled bags, and dragging a suitcase around a busy mall is no fun.

  • Early check-in: Jewel has early check-in facilities on Level 1 for participating airlines. Drop your bags there and explore hands-free. Check Jewel's website for the current list of airlines.
  • Left baggage: If your airline is not on the list, the left-baggage service on Level 1 will hold your bags for a fee.
  • GST refunds: Tourists can start a GST refund at the eTRS self-help kiosk on Level 1, which operates from 12pm to 8pm at the time of writing. Bring your passport, tickets, receipts and the items.

Free things to do at Jewel

Watch the Rain Vortex

The centrepiece of Jewel is the Rain Vortex, described by Jewel as the world's tallest indoor waterfall. Water falls about 40 metres from an opening in the glass roof down to the basement. It runs daily from 10am to 10pm at the time of writing, and in the evening it becomes a light and music show: at 8pm and 9pm from Monday to Thursday, with an extra 10pm show from Friday to Sunday, on public holidays and their eves. The best views are from the lower floors close to the falls, or from the upper levels looking down through the greenery.

Walk the Forest Valley

The Forest Valley is a terraced indoor garden around the waterfall, with more than 900 trees and palms and around 60,000 shrubs. It is open 24 hours. Two walking trails climb from the lower floors towards the top level: the eastern trail passes rocky falls, while the western trail is wrapped in mist. Jewel suggests allowing about half an hour per trail. Luggage is not allowed on the trails, and high heels are not recommended.

Eat, shop and people-watch

Jewel has more than 250 shops and restaurants. Most open from 10am to 10pm, with a few keeping longer hours. If you want a proper meal before a long flight, there are plenty of choices, including outlets of brands that have earned Michelin recognition elsewhere, such as Tsuta, Putien and Kam's Roast. Note that Jewel has no prayer room; the nearest ones are in the airport's transit areas, after immigration.

Ticketed attractions at Canopy Park

Canopy Park is on Level 5, the top floor, under the glass roof. At the time of writing it opens from 10am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, and until 10pm from Friday to Sunday, on public holidays and their eves, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. Some attractions keep shorter hours, so check before you buy.

Canopy Park admissionDiscovery Slides, Foggy Bowls, Petal Garden and Topiary WalkFamilies with young children; a gentle hour
Canopy BridgeA bridge 23 metres above the floor, with a glass-bottomed middle section and the best view of the Rain Vortex from abovePhotos; anyone not afraid of heights

Walking Net and Bouncing NetNetted play spaces suspended high above the floor, in timed sessionsActive kids and adults with time to spare

Each paid attraction includes basic Canopy Park admission, and bundle tickets cover several at once. At the time of writing a standard Canopy Park ticket is SGD 8, with lower rates for Singapore residents. Some attractions have a minimum height requirement, and children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Wear comfortable covered shoes, and leave your bags in storage first.

Changi Experience Studio

Also inside Jewel, the Changi Experience Studio is an interactive attraction about how the airport works, with projection shows and games across ten zones. It opens from 11am on weekdays and 10am at weekends and on public holidays, closing at 8pm with last entry at 7pm (at the time of writing). It is a good choice on a rainy afternoon or for children who love planes.

If you need to rest or freshen up

  • Changi Lounge (Level 1): a paid lounge on the public side with snacks, Wi-Fi, nap pods and meeting rooms, open 6am to 10pm. Jewel notes that its showers are unavailable until 15 November 2026.
  • YOTELAIR (Level 4): compact cabins that can be booked for as little as four hours, useful after an overnight arrival or before a very early departure.

Sample plans by time

One hour

Check in, then walk straight to the Rain Vortex, take your photos and grab a coffee. If it is evening, time your visit for a light show.

Two to three hours

Drop your bags, walk one Forest Valley trail, have a meal, then go up to Canopy Park for the Canopy Bridge or a maze. Head to departures with at least an hour to spare.

Four hours or more

Do both trails, add the Hedge Maze or the nets, visit the Changi Experience Studio, and finish with the 8pm show before you go through immigration.

Practical tips

  • Know your terminal. Jewel connects directly to the Terminal 1 arrival hall, and via link bridges from the Terminal 2 and 3 departure halls, a walk of about 5 to 10 minutes. Terminal 4 is linked by a free shuttle bus. Our Changi arrival guide explains the pick-up points at each terminal.
  • Set an alarm. Jewel is designed to make you lose track of time. Work back from your airline's check-in and boarding times.
  • Transit passengers: Jewel is landside, so you need to clear immigration to visit. Jewel recommends at least five hours of transit time.
  • Avoid weekend afternoons if you want quieter photos; Jewel is a popular day out for Singapore families.
  • Get dropped at the right door. The drop-off and pick-up point is at the Level 2 main entrance. Our guide to Singapore airport drop-offs covers the terminals too.

Coming from Johor? Let the car do the work

Many of our passengers live in Johor and fly from Changi because of the wider choice of flights. Jewel's own directions put the drive at about 30 minutes from Woodlands Checkpoint and 40 minutes from Tuas, but the border queue is the unknown, which is why it makes sense to leave early and spend the spare time at Jewel rather than worry in traffic. With a private car you stay in the car through immigration at both checkpoints, and your driver drops you at Jewel or right at your terminal. When you land, the same applies in reverse. Fares are per car and the same in both directions, including tolls, checkpoint fees, fuel and parking.

See fares for the Changi Airport to Johor Bahru transfer, or our Singapore to KLIA service if your flight leaves from Kuala Lumpur. Not sure which airport to use? Read Senai or Changi. Then book through our booking guide or Whatsapp us your flight details. No deposit; you pay the driver on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jewel Changi open 24 hours?

The building and the Forest Valley are open 24 hours, according to Jewel's website. Most shops and restaurants keep shorter hours, typically 10am to 10pm, and the Rain Vortex and Canopy Park have their own opening times.

Is Jewel before or after immigration?

Before. Jewel is on the public side of the airport, so anyone can visit. Finish your visit, then go back to your terminal's departure hall and clear immigration.

Can I visit Jewel during a transit at Changi?

Only if you are allowed to enter Singapore and have enough time. Jewel recommends at least five hours of transit, and you will need to clear immigration both ways.

Is the Rain Vortex free to see?

Yes. Viewing the waterfall and the evening light and music shows is free. Paid tickets are only needed for attractions such as Canopy Park, the mazes and the nets.

How early should I arrive at Changi to see Jewel?

Work out your airline's check-in deadline, then add the time you want at Jewel. Two to three extra hours is enough for the highlights. If you are coming from Malaysia, add a generous buffer for the border.
